Mark Škulj - rojen za hitrost, ustvarjen za zmago!

The love for car racing was planted in Marks crib. His father Andrej is a great petrol four-wheel sport enthusiast and therefore Mark came to love this sport in his early childhood. He drove a go-cart for the first time when he was only seven and a year later he was already racing.

He was fast to achieve good results and in the years 2017 and 2018 he participated in the World Academy Trophy race as the only Slovene representative where he always qualified for the finals. His career with miniature racing cars ended after an accident in the year 2018.

Shortly after that, at the hill climb race in Ilirska Bistrica he met Mirko Marinšek by chance. This experienced racing driver, team owner and mentor of many young racing drivers suggested Mark to try racing at the circuit race championship with Renault Twingo cars. Only 14 years old, on the next Sunday Mark sat in a Twingo on the Gaj track in Cerklje ob Krki and came in fourth!

The next season in 2019 Mark performed at all Twingo Cup ESET V4 races in a tough international competition and at the end of the year celebrated the victory not only in the junior category Twingo Cup, but also in overall standings among 32 drivers. On top of that he was the Winner of the CEZ Eset V4 Cup junior category. At the end of the season celebration in Vienna for he’s achievements he was rewarded the flattering acknowledgment for the best driver of the circuit race zone championship of central Europe!

He’s success continued also in the domestic competition, as Mark became the Slovene national champion in Twingo cup, junior champion in the category till age 21 and he received the Slovene car sport association AŠ 2005 insignia for the most promising driver of 2019.

In the year 2020 he competed on Slovene national championship hill climb races under the patronage of the IK Sport racing team with Ford Fiesta Rally4 and as the member of moto club AMD Gorica once again achieved the junior national champion title in the category till age 21.

But rally remained he’s real love although he wasn’t allowed to compete due to he’s young age.

So he tested himself in various races.

On the Euro Nascar championship at Grobnik, Croatia in the PRO category, on gravel track Rally Show of the Autosport Jazon club and at Rally, Circuit and Adria Rally Show 2021 races in Italy. On the last one with he’s co-driver Matej Čar he achieved the first place in he’s class, fourth place of all drivers till age 25 and first place of drivers till age 18. The rules under special circumstances allow the participation of drivers from age 16 on, so Mark at age 17 will try to participate on all races for the National Rally Championship in collaboration with IK Sport racing team and under great support of the AMD Gorica moto club.

Mark Škulj has already proven that he’s a fast driver, so he’s ambitions in this attractive but demanding sport are justifiably high.

First he wants to prove himself in rally on roads at home and after that also abroad and finally become a professional racing driver. Although rally is his favourite sport, he doesn’t want to write of other racing sport varieties, as he’s already proven himself on hill-climb and circuit races.

In any case, according to the Slovene proverb that a good horse always raises lots of dust, in the coming years we will hear a lot of Mark Škulj and he’s achievements behind the racing car wheel!
